Court sentences mother & son to 7 years imprisonment for Betting Misrepresentation

A woman identified by name as Oluwayemisi, together with her son, identified as Joshua Samuel in the Kaduna area of Nigeria was taken to court on charges bothering on misrepresentation and giving false information.

 

The Kaduna Zonal Command of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC), in a press statement issued on Wednesday, stated that the woman, Oluwayemisi and her son, Joshua squandered the sum of N5.6 million on sports betting and caused a false petition to be sent to the EFCC, alleging that the money was fraudulently withdrawn from their Opay account to a sports betting account by an unknown individual without their authorisation.

 

On the charges brought against them before the court, both mother and child pleaded guilty.

 

In view of the defendants’ guilty pleas, prosecution counsel, N. Salele prayed the court to convict them accordingly.

 

The EFCC, has now secured a conviction of both the mother and son before the Kaduna State High Court on the separate count charges.

 

The presiding Judge, Justice A. A Bello, in his ruling, convicted and sentenced both defendants to 7 years imprisonment with an option of N150, 000 fine each.
