Ukrainian Commission for the Regulation of Gambling and Lotteries (Krail), which is the industry reulator, announced that between January and end of October 2022, UAH856.5m (£20.6m/€23.4m/$23.2m/N10.2bn), has been generated from License fees, as revenue.
The posted figures equally showed that UAH79.7m, was spent on the Commission, within the 10-month period, from the state budget, representing 9.3% of the generated revenue.
Also, the released statistics showed that the generated revenue for the year 2021 stood at UAH1.58bn, and UAH125.5m, representing 7.9% of the revenue, was spent on the regulator.
The official statistics also showed that from January 2021 to the end of October 2022, total amount generated from licence fees in Ukraine, amounted to UAH2.44bn, which according to the Commission far outweighed expenses, by 91.6%.
The huge difference in revenue can be attributed to the country’s ongoing conflict with Russia.
Industry Support for Ukraine
It is noteworthy that the global gambling industry rallied round Ukraine at this time of crisis, by launching a series of initiatives to support those impacted.
A campaign termed “The Gaming Industry for Ukraine Campaign” was launched at the start of the conflict and has thus far raised over £261,000. All proceeds from the campaign are being donated “Choose Love’s Ukraine Crisis Fundraiser”.
Also, Parimatch Tech founded in the capital city Kyiv, has allocated more than €500,000 to support the people of Ukraine, and has equally partnered with British Charity Organisation; “WeHelpUkrainians” to launch the Ukraine Hospitals Appeal initiative, which aims to raise $1m for those affected by the conflict.
Parimatch Tech in March this year, withdrew its Betring LLC franchise from Russia in solidarity to Ukraine, and has also cut ties with Russian esports team, Team Spirit.
French operator Française des Jeux donated €200,000, to two organisations; Libraries without Borders and Together for Human Development, supporting Ukrainian refugees in France.
Pragmatic Play also donated £100,000 to the British Red Cross’ “Ukraine Crisis Appeal”.
