Powerball Lotto Jackpot Stands at 1.9bn Dollars World Record Prize

As reported by BBC news, the US Powerball jackpot now stands at an estimated pre-tax prize of $1.9bn (£1.7bn, N840.7bn), after more than three months of 39 consecutive drawings and no winner.

The draw has been advertised for Monday and according to Powerball, the odds of winning the jackpot are one in 292.2 million. To win the jackpot, a ticket must match all six numbers drawn

It is reported that despite no jackpot winner, the 16 tickets that matched the five main numbers, will win $1m (£879,000, N442.5m) each.

Powerball tickets cost $2 (£1.76, N885) to purchase, and the jackpot winner will have the option of choosing a lump sum full and final payment of ($929m, £817m) for Monday’s draw, or the full amount in an annuity paid over 29 years.

If there are multiple winners, they will share the jackpot win equally.

The Powerball game is played in 45 out of 50 states in America and its highest draw to date was in 2016 for world record $159bn. The record jackpot win, had three Powerball ticket holders in three different US states and they shared the win.
