Nigeria introduces new permit for Remote licensed operators
Nigeria government is set to introduce a new remote operator permit, for offshore-licensed operators, in order to allow businesses to offer online gambling in Nigeria, without a local presence which is the usual practice.
In this new move, foreign businesses will be eligible for a remote operator permit, if they already hold a licence in another jurisdiction and wish to offer their services to Nigerian players.
This permit will allow operators to offer casino games, bingo, slots, sports betting and poker, and will be valid for five years. In order to receive the permit, interested operators is expected to pay an initial $100,000 (Euro100.674/£87.353/N44.250m), followed by fees of $50,000 (Euro50.097/£43,686/N22.125m) in each of the preceding four years.
The Nigerian National Lottery Regulatory Commission (NLRC) will be the body to issue the terms and conditions that will govern the operations, of the permit-holders. The approved permit holders will be allowed to not just operate in the Nigerian space, but also to advertise their products and services in the media or through affiliate programs.
According to the DG of NLRC, Lanre Gbajabiamila, the country would welcome all responsible offshore gaming operators that pass its screening process, including full AML screening and responsible gaming practices.
