Die Glücksspielbehörde, the new German regulator will commence action against unlicensed operators and those advertising their sites, from 1st of July, 2022. The intended actions will include blocking IP addresses and implementing payments, for unlicensed websites starting from the first of July.
According to reports, the new regulator will take over the regulation of gambling in Germany fully, from the 1st of January, 2023. However, its intended action against unlicensed operators and illegal site advertisers, will still start by 1st of July, 2022.
According to the regulator, in order to curb illegal gambling, it will utilize both payment and IP address blocking, in order to enforce policy and shut down unlicensed operators and even affiliates advertising unlicensed gambling.
The regulator is said to provide information, on the concrete procedure for combating illegal gambling and the use of enforcement instruments such as IP blocking, and payment blocking by the 8th of July, 2022.
The national gaming supervision system (LUGAS), will be used to note the participation of players across all licensed German operators, in order to enforce rules such as, the country’s cross-operator deposit cap.
There are only three licensed operators for online slots in the German gambling market; Mernov, TipWin, and Mybet, though there are more sports betting licensed companies.
Germany’s strict rule under the Fourth State Treaty on Gambling, made entry into the market very hard.
Aside from making entry into the German gambling market hard, the German Fourth State treaty on gambling have a number of conditions, which includes a €1 stake limit for slots, and operators are required to pay 5.3% of their turnover in tax.
