Gambling is regulated in S A by the National Gambling Board (NGB) to regulate the gambling industry in SA. NGB was established in terms of the National Gambling Act, 2004 (Act No. 7 of 2004)
Nigeria
Gambling in Nigeria is regulated by the National Lottery Regulatory Commission (NLRC) under the National Lottery Act, 2005. Gambling is under the Ministry of Special Duties & Inter-Governmental Affairs.
Kenya
The Betting Control & Licensing Board (BCLB) is the body tasked with the regulation of gambling activities in Kenya. Established through an Act of parliament; Betting, Lotteries & Gaming Act, chapt 131 Laws of Kenya 1966.
Ghana
Gambling activities in Ghana is regulated by
- National Lottery Authority Ghana, est. under Act 722 (2006) and legislative instrument Li 1948 (Lotto Regulations 2008) to regulate lottery activities.
- Gaming Commission Ghana, est. under the Gaming Act 721 (2006) to regulate sportsbetting and other games.
Uganda
Gambling activities is regulated by the Lotteries and Gaming Regulatory Board (LGRB); established through the Lotteries & Gaming Act 2016 of Uganda.
Tanzania
The Gaming Board of Tanzania est. under the Gaming Act Cap 41 (2003) is the authority in charge of regulating gambling activities in Tanzania.
Zambia
Gambling activities in Zambia is regulated by the government. There is no separate regulator. There are three separate laws guiding the Zambian gambling industry; The Zambia Casino Act, passed in 1992; The Betting Control Act, first passed in 1958 and amended last in 1994; The Lotteries Act, passed in the 1950s but has been amended several times. Gambling is under the Ministry of Tourism & Art of Zambia.
Senegal
LONASE is responsible for regulating the gambling industry. It was established in 1966 and has been state owned since 1987.
Sierra Lone
No regulatory body to regulate and monitor gambling activities, however gambling licenses is issued by the Tourist Board of Sierra Lone. The country has a state lottery and there is only one legal gambling provider in the country called Mercury International, which provide 5/90 lottery, sports betting, Horse racing and dog racing.
Zimbabwe
Gambling activities is regulated by the Lotteries and Gambling Board; est. through the Lotteries & Gaming Act (2000)
Malawi
The Malawi Gaming Board, est. under the Gaming Act, No 26 (1996) as amened (1998) id the authority overseeing the regulation of gambling activities in the country.
Egypt
The Ministry of Tourism regulates gambling activities in Egypt, guided by law from bill nr1/ 1973 on hotels & tourism resorts. Egyptians are forbidden to use casinos on the nation’s territory; only foreign players have access to casinos. Local currency is not used except dollars and Euro in some places.
Tunisia
The Tunisian government regulates gambling in Tunisia. The government has control of all land based casinos in the country. Only foreign players have access to casinos and local currencies are not accepted at the casinos except dollars & Euros.
Ivory Coast
The National Lottery of Ivory Coast; Loterie Nationale de Cote d Ivoire (LONACI) was created by Law No. 70209 of March, 1970. LONACI is administered by a Baord of Directors made up of ten members, including a President.
Morocco
La Marocaine des Jeux et des Sports (MDJS) is the Moroccan State lottery which oversees the activities of sports betting & lotteries in the African nation. Sportsbetting & lottery gaming has been operated under the supervision of the Moroccan government since 2009.
Liberia
The National Lottery Authority (NLA) of Liberia was founded in 1993, is the statutory authority that regulates lottery in Liberia.
Cameroon
The government of Cameroon regulates the gambling business through their Finance law. Decree No 2019/2300/pm July 2019 is the legislation that outlined how the gambling business is operated in the country. Bets, Casinos & Lotteries fall under the concession regime agreements signed by the Minister in charge of games.
Ethiopia
The National Lottery Administration is the main regulatory body tasked with regulating & governing gambling related activities in the country since 1981.
Niger
Though not a robust gambling market but gambling is legal. Loterie Nationale du Niger oversees the National lottery while sports betting is regulated by the government.
Rwanda
The Rwandan Gambling Board is the authority that oversees the activities of the gambling industry in the country. It was established in 2013.
Gabon
Gambling activities in Gabon is regulated by the 2005 gambling la, Reglementation gebnerale des jeux de hazard.
Cape Verde
Gambling activities is regulated by the Cabo Verde General Inspectorate of Games (Inspeccao-General de jogos)
Mauritius
The Gambling Regulatory Authority (GRA), is the authority responsible for the licensing & monitoring of gaming activities in Mauritius.
Botswana
The Gambling Authority is the body corporate est. in terms of the Gambling Act No 7 2012 to regulate the gambling industry in Botswana.
Equitorial Guinea
Ministerio de Cultural Turismo Y Francofonia is the body responsible for the regulation of the gambling activities in the country. The law regulating the industry is the Juegos de Reccreo y de Azar which was passed in 1995 and amended in 2005.
Seychelles
The Financial Services Authority is the regulatory organisation assigned to issue gambling licenses. The interactive gambling Act, 2013 provides for the licensing & regulation of any internet gambling business carried out in Seychelles, while the Seychelles Gambling Act, 2014 provides for the licensing & regulation of the gambling industry.
Lesotho
Central Casino Board oversee all the regulations & supervisions of gambling activities under Lesotho’s gambling Regulation Act.
