Regulators from Britain, France, Germany, Portugal, and Spain have released a joint statement on the World Cup, reminding operators to keep responsible gambling and player protection in mind during the World Cup.
According to the joint statement, the meeting of regulators which held on 15th November 2022, in Paris, was an opportunity to address several topics in the global gaming industry, including the fight against illegal offers and the protection of players and advertising during the World Cup.
The joint statement also acknowledged that this year’s World Cup would be the world’s largest and most high-profile tournaments and therefore likely to see an increase in betting activity; and so, the regulators will make consumer protection a foremost priority during the World Cup.
The statement also stated that the regulators will work closely together with the World Cup host country Qatar to monitor the gambling market and ensure advertising, betting integrity and consumer protection regulations are followed by gambling operators throughout the tournament.
The regulators also vouched that, in order to improve awareness of the risks around gambling harm, during this World Cup season, they will also be increasing their activities on social media, to better promote how people can gamble safely.
Other Regulators
Belgium’s Gambling Commission released a statement reminding operators of certain sections of the country’s Gambling Act, which are used to promote responsible gambling.
The Dutch Gambling Authority urged the operators to monitor their advertising presence during the World Cup.
