Brentford’s Ivan Toney officially charged by FA, for allegedly breaching its betting rules on so many occasions while playing outside the premier league
Ivan Toney, the Brentford club striker, was charged last month by the English Football Association for allegedly breaching its betting Rules on 232 occasions between February 2017 and January 2021, while he was playing for Scunthorpe United, Wigan Athletic, Peterborough United and his current club, Brentford FC.
It was reported that Toney has been under investigation by the FA for several months, over the alleged breach of its E8 rules, which states that any player, match official or coach, must not bet either directly or indirectly, on any matters related to football, anywhere in the world. https://www.thefa.com
The FA confirmed the official charging of the striker in a released statement which stated that the body has charged the striker with misconduct, in relation to alleged breaches of its betting rules. Also, a released statement from Brentford FC; Toney’s current club, further confirmed the charges.
However, following further investigation, the FA, has added more charges, alleging that their investigation has shown that Toney breached its E8 rule for an additional 30 times between 14 March 2017 and 18 February 2019, as opposed to the earlier released 232 occasions.
The football striker who earlier stated that he was helping the FA with the investigation, has yet to respond to the official charges, though he is said to have until 4th January 2023 to provide a formal response.
