Nwankwo Kanu has become one of the latest addition to the Sportsbet.io team. The former professional player signed a four year deal to become their ambassador, and will feature across a range of promotions and special activities.
Sportsbet.io, a bitcoin-based betting site was founded in 2016 as part of Yolo Group. Signing the Nigerian former Arsenal forward is part of Sportsbet quest to capitalize on the growing popularity of cryptocurrency in Africa.
The bitcoin betting site is said to have donated a 250-millibitcoin (mBTC) to the Kanu Heart Foundation, an organisation founded by Kanu to help Nigerians with cardiac diseases obtain life-saving surgeries in and out of the country.
They crypo/bitcoin betting site also hosted an event; “Ahead of the Game” event in Lagos in May, where loads of people including Kanu watched Arsenal and Manchester United match.
According to Kanu, “Signing for Sportsbet.io was the perfect opportunity to join the crypto revolution,” Kanu said. “I’ve already seen how crypto can be a force for good in our world, with the Kanu Heart Foundation receiving significant Bitcoin donations.”
Sportsbet.io has earlier signed Kenyan rapper, King Kaka; South African rapper Cassper Nyovest and Nigerian Afropop star, Tekno as their ambassadors.
