5/90 GAMES: HOW TO PLAY AND INSTRUCTIONS
5/90 Games is a game brought into Nigeria from Ghana and is popular and largely played in Nigeria through POS channels called terminals. Thanks to the Baba Ijebu franchise popularly signified by a big red terminal on every nook and cranny of many neighborhoods and markets in the country especially in the South-South and R& S Lotto which is dominant in the Eastern region and others lottery operators in different regions of the country, the game now has a huge existing market.
It is a fixed odds game where the amount to be won is already fixed before a stake is placed by a player. To generally play this game, a player will select a combination of numbers of his own choice from numbers 1-90 at the draw, these numbers are randomly selected from 1 to 90 numbered balls and these drawn numbers are what are referred to as the “winning numbers”
The minimum number of matches you need to win a prize is 2 numbers. To win the jackpot, you will have to match all 5 numbers.
There are two types of play adopted for this game; Direct play and Permutation. There are five ways to play. Direct; this is where a player will choose numbers and places a stake against the numbers. There are no particular way or strategy for choosing your numbers, you simply choose according to your intuition.
- 1-DIRECT: here, the player chooses a number and places a stake against the odds that the number he has chosen to play will match one of the winning numbers that will be drawn .E.g. If a player has chosen to play 4 as his guaranteed number (“one Direct”), it means that he has placed his stake on the certainty that number 4 will match one out of the five winning numbers that will be selected in the draw he has entered for. The odds are N40/N1 staked, i.e. for every N1 the player staked, he stands to win N40
- 2–DIRECT: The player chooses 2 numbers and stakes against the odds that the two numbers he has chosen to play will match two out of the five winning numbers to be selected in the draw he has entered for. The odds are N250/N1 staked, which means that for every N1 he staked, he will win N250 if his chosen numbers are drawn.
- 3-DIRECT: The player chooses 3 numbers and places a stake against the odds that the three numbers he has chosen to play will match three out of the five winning numbers to be selected in the draw he has entered for. The odds are N2,100/N1 staked.
- 4-DIRECT: the player chooses 4 numbers and stakes against the odds that the four numbers he has chosen to play will match four out of the five winning numbers to be selected in the draw he has entered for. The odds are N6000/N1 staked.
- 5-DIRECT: the player chooses 5 numbers and stakes against the odds that five numbers he has chosen to play, will match the five winning number in the draw he has entered for. The odds are N44000/N1 staked. This is called winning the Jackpot.
PERMUTATION
In a permutation play, the reverse is the case as the player stakes in favour of chosen numbers not against. The odds are the same in both plays.
- PERM-1: The player chooses a number and places a stake in favour of the number he has chosen being among the numbers to be selected in the draw. He becomes a winner if the number he selected in favor of is drawn. The odds are N40/N1 staked
- PERM-2: The player places a stake in favour of any two numbers he has chosen from a selected range of numbers being part of the winning numbers to be selected at the draw. The odds are N250/N1 staked.
- PERM-3: The player places a stake in favour of any three numbers from a selected range of numbers as described above. The odds are N2, 100/N1 staked.
- PERM-4: The player places a stake in favour of any four numbers from a selected range of numbers as described above. The odds are N6000/N1 staked.
- PERM-5: The player places a stake in favour of any five numbers from a selected range of numbers as described above. The odds are N44000/N1 staked. This is called the Jackpot.
